Question Tam K

I have a question for you.

Normally, depending on whether it is “static load” or “dynamic load”, we can build the design of a structure by considering the safety factor. In most cases, after calculating the force (stress), the safety factor is added and the value is examined by comparing it to the strength of the material.
In the case of springs, how is this safety factor included in the calculation?

Answer Tokai Spring

For static loads, JIS B 2704 2000 version 4.7.1, stress setting (τ0) is set, and the maximum stress when the spring is used is set to 80% or less of the stress. In the case of dynamic loads, the service life is estimated by τ / σB using the Goodman diagram. (Use the lowest value of the standard for tensile strength)
* Setting: Applying stress higher than the elastic limit of the material in the direction of use. A kind of plastic working.
