Question Fumio Murayama

I want to design a torsion coil spring with the following conditions:
Material: SWP-A; average diameter Φ2.0; free angle Φ8.0; mounting angle 160 degrees; deflection angle 66 degrees; when used in rewinding direction 94 degrees, with a central axis.
Please tell me the optimum number of coils, service life, and assembly method.

Answer Tokai Spring

Mr. Fumio Murayama, thank you for writing!

Since the wire diameter and coil diameter are fixed, the number of coils will be 12.1 so that it is within the maximum working stress.
Dimensional example: Wire diameter: Φ2mm, coil mean diameter: 8mm, total number of coils: 12.1, deflection angle: 94 °, 89kgf ・ mm, SWP-A, tensile strength: σB ≧ 184.5kgf/mm^2
Expected service life is about 30,000 times.
