Question Kuni

I’d like to make durable wave washers, but I don’t know how to make it. Is it something that can be calculated, or is it something that can only be gained from experience (actual evaluation)? Please let me know if there is a way. Also, what should I do to actually maximize the durability? Will it be an adjustment (increase) of plate thickness, rim width, or the compression’s deflection amount?

Answer Tokai Spring

Thank you for writing to us, Kuni!
Generally, most wave washers are used as washers. Therefore, it seems that there are few uses that require durability, and there are only a few studies about durability. To maximize durability, it is best to set the dimensions so that the working stress is low!

Answer Kuni

I thought the wave washers were thought to be similar to springs, so it was surprising for me that durability was not considered very much. Does that mean that the manufacturers do not do anything because the durability of the products depends on the users, even if the dimensions and stress are confirmed (guaranteed?)?? Also, is it okay to set the working stress low so that the stress is increased by changing the dimensions and the deflection is as small as possible?

Answer Tokai Spring

Hello! Since parts like washers have many static uses and there are few cases where they are used dynamically, the reality is that there is little data on durability in dynamic use. (When the durability depends on the users, it does not mean that the manufacturers do not do anything (^. ^).) Also, regarding the setting so that the working stress is low … This means setting the number low. Thank you very much!
