Question Hiro

I am considering using SK5 as the material for flat springs. In that process, it became necessary to perform heat treatment in-house. Could you tell me the quenching and tempering conditions for SK5 used as material for springs?

Answer Tokai Spring

We use thin (2 mm or less) SK5 material for springs, but if the plate thickness is thin, distortion may remain in the heat treatment of quenching and tempering, so we have applied austempering. Please refer to our austempering heat treatment of SK5 as a reference: 870℃ x 10 minutes hold → 360℃ x 15 minutes hold → water cooling.
Thank you!
