Question Luqman 2026/3/12(Thu) 23:15
Hello! I’m making a compression spring from SWP B wire which will be subjected to repeated cyclic load in an internal cylinder that will put it close to coil bound each cycle. The spring utilizes a 4mm wire with an od of 23 and a total free length of 275mm. What do you suggest I should do after forming the spring? Do I also need to apply set removal to it or not? Thank you for your time.

Dear Luqman,
Thank you for contacting us!
Since the number of coils is not specified, we are unable to estimate the load that can be generated from the given dimensions and to determine appropriate load points at this stage.
However, based on the provided information, we believe that setting (presetting) would be necessary.
In addition, if possible, we would also recommend shot peening in order to improve the fatigue strength of the spring.
