Comprehensive Spring Testing and Analysis — Even for Non-Tokai Products

Tokai Spring Industries has established a system for testing, investigation, and analysis not only for Tokai-made springs, but also for springs manufactured by other companies. For each request, we do not simply conduct standard test items. Instead, we carefully review the background and objectives through detailed discussions and propose the most appropriate evaluation methods that truly contribute to solving the customer’s challenges. With a flexible, engineering-driven approach, we strongly support customers’ product development and quality assurance activities.

Challenge

As part of a customer’s product development process, they needed to obtain measured values of commercially available disc springs. Although the customer had testing equipment in-house, they were unsure how to evaluate the measurement results or determine whether their testing approach was appropriate. Therefore, we decided to support them comprehensively—from the measurement method to the technical evaluation—based on Tokai Spring’s specialized expertise as a spring manufacturer.

Solution

When compressing the spring according to the customer’s initial request, there was a risk of permanent set (plastic deformation) occurring. To ensure the test would meet the intended purpose without causing deformation, Tokai Spring reviewed and refined the test content and measurement method, defined a compression amount that would not induce permanent set, and proposed optimized test conditions. After receiving the customer’s approval, we proceeded with the testing under the revised conditions.

Result

We obtained measured values aligned with the customer’s objectives and submitted test results that included not only the data, but also Tokai Spring’s professional evaluation as a specialized spring manufacturer. This supported the customer’s product development efforts.
