For example, here we design a spring to be used under a static load with coil diameter of 8 mm or less, a deflection angle of 50 degrees, and M = 150 N·mm.

According to the formula that calculates σ on the torsion spring calculation formula page,

if σ from “How To Calculate The Spring Stress – Figure 4 Bending Stress of Spring” is substituted to 1300 N/mm2 or less and the wire diameter (d) is calculated, the wire diameter must be φ1.1 mm or more.

Here, fix the wire diameter to φ1.2 mm and calculate DN from the formula.

The formula above gives DN = 39.
When D is set to 6 mm due to the coil diameter restriction, N = 6.5.
