Question Spring Newbie

It is said that welding is not recommended to spring steel. Could you please explain why?

Answer Tokai Spring

Thank you for your question, Spring Newbie!!!
Spring steel (SUP) is alloy steel made for spring applications. Due to the heat effect during welding, the welded part becomes hard and may cause cracking.
Therefore, in the case of a design that including welding, low carbon steel will be selected. If it is unavoidable to weld the spring steel, it may be necessary to minimize the heat effect during welding and to perform the welding only on the part where no load is generated. In order to avoid cracking, it is important to follow the rules.
