Question Spring Newbie

I’m sorry for asking such a simple question, but what does J1-WPC at the end of SUS631J1-WPC mean? Also, is there a material with a different ending in the SUS631 spring series?

Answer Tokai Spring

Thank you for writing to us, Spring Newbie!

Regarding “J1-WPC” in SUS631J1-WPC, J1 is a steel grade that was standardized and named in Japan. The amount of Ni is increased from 6.50-7.75 (SUS631) to 7.00-8.50 (SUS631J1). In other words, the amount of Ni is increased. → Increases the toughness of martensite. → The material is hard to break. (By the way, WPC is a tempering symbol.)
Also, SUS631-CSP is the steel strip used for the SUS631 series.
