Question Sugi

I want to use a conical coil spring with both compression and torsion characteristics, but I do not know how to calculate the load and service life of the spring. Can you help me? Thank you.

Answer Tokai Spring

Please refer to the technical information on our website for the calculation formulas of the compression direction of conical coil springs.
There isn’t any document about the formulas when using conical coil springs in the torsion direction, so I think that there is no method but to make an approximate calculation using the calculation formula of normal torsion coil springs. (Please refer to our page about calculation formulas of torsion springs.)
Regarding the estimated service life, it is possible to evaluate the torsional stress applied during compression and the bending stress applied when using in the torsion direction, but it is a simultaneous combination. It may be difficult to estimate the stress applied in this case, so we recommend that you check it with a few tests.
