Question Spring Newbie

Do I need to consider the strength of the guide rod when designing a torsion spring?

Answer Tokai Spring

Spring Newbie, when designing torsion springs, it is desirable to consider the strength of the guide rod according to the shape and usage of the torsion spring.
In particular, care must be taken when a large shearing force or bending force is generated on the guide rod due to the operation of the torsion spring. In addition, the outer diameter of the guide rod (clearance with the inner diameter of the torsion spring) must be set in consideration of the change in coil diameter due to the twisting operation of the torsion spring.
