Question J Henderson

Hello. I need to achieve a rate of 8 using two springs in series. The two springs will be identical to each other. What should their rates be? And is there a simple formula? Thank you!

Answer Tokai Spring

Dear Mr. Henderson,

Thank you for contacting us!
The spring constant (spring rate) when 2 springs are used in series can be calculated with the following formula:

1/K=1/k1+1/k1
=2/k1
→K=k1/2
And therefore, K=8/2=4

Best regards,
