Disc springs and guide clearance

Question Spring Newbie

I would like to use disc springs stacked in series, put a guide (cylindrical one) onto the inner diameter, and put it in a case for use.
In this case, I think that the dimensions of both the inner and outer diameters change when the disc springs are compressed. How much should the clearance be considered? The disc springs used have an outer diameter of φ100, an inner diameter of φ41, and a plate thickness of t=3.0.

Answer Tokai Spring

When compressed, the disc springs’ inner diameter enlarges, and the outer diameter shrinks. Generally, the inner diameter guide method is often used. The guide surface should be smooth, and the material with the hardness of HRC55-60 should be used!
For your disc springs’ dimensions, we recommend a clearance of 0.5 mm.
